You Will Need
* 2x Knitcraft Return of the Mac - Ecru
* Scissors
* Measuring Tape
* Comb
* Cork Board and Pins (Optional)
Preparation
Cut the following:
* 1x 7m guide string
* 5x 267 cm
* 6x 241 cm
* 6x 216 cm
* 6x 191 cm
* 6x 165 cm
* 6x 140 cm
* 6x 114 cm
Note: Everyone will have a different tension when knotting therefore each piece is unique and dimensions may vary. The yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are approximate.
Start by taking the 7m guide string. Make a circle leaving an approx. 3 inch tail.
Attach the 5 x 105 inch strings onto the circle using Reverse Larks Head Knots.
Space these knots evenly around the circle.
Pull either end of the guide string to tighten the knots in a circle.
Using the longer end of the guide string begin to create Double Half Hitch Knots on each string, following around the circle.
To keep the placemat flat do not pull the knots too tight.
After creating a few Double Half Hitch Knots, cut short the smaller tail end of the guide string. Tuck this cut end under the guide string to hide it.
Continue creating Double Half Hitch Knots both around the guide string and the remnants of the tail.
Continue creating the Double Half Hitch Knots around the circle.
If there are any gaps add the next cut string length (95 inch strings) by using a Reverse Larks Head Knot to attach onto the guide string then continue with the Double Half Hitch Knots.
Repeat this step using the 95 inch strings to fill any gaps until they run out. Continue adding the decreasing length strings to any gaps when needed.
Once the desired diameter has been reached (approx. 10.3 inch / 26cm) make sure the last few Double Half Hitch Knots are extra tight.
Trim the loose strings leaving 6cm around the outside of your circular ring.
Using a comb, gently brush out the strings to create a tassel effect. Starch spray can be used to keep the tassels flat and in place.
