How to make

Step 1

Begin by transferring the templates onto paper.

Pencil in a vertical centre line to help position the egg aperture template centrally on the front of the card. Mark a cutting line for the egg shape and cut out with a craft knife.

Step 2

Use the other egg template to mark out two egg shapes from a sheet of pale yellow textured card.

Step 3

Transfer the hand-lettered Happy Easter caption guide from the template onto the textured surface of both egg shapes. To do this, use tracing paper to trace the caption in pencil, then scribble on the reverse. Position the caption onto each egg shape, and then write over again in pencil, leaving a faint guide.

Step 4

Choose a dark brown brush pen, with an extra-fine brush nib, to hand letter the caption and bunny ear illustration. Remember to apply more pressure to all the downward strokes to achieve the thick and thin areas

Step 5

Cut out each egg. Fix back-to-back trapping a length of invisible thread from top to bottom, leaving enough to attach to the card front.

Step 6

Select a sheet of patterned paper with rabbits and yellow flowers across it. Apply some glue with a glue stick down just down the left-hand side of the card front, fix into place the patterned paper. Open the card, and use a craft knife to cut away the egg aperture area.

Step 7

Place the yellow egg into the aperture. Use a small piece of double-sided tape to secure the top section of invisible thread to the card front, under the patterned paper.

Apply more glue to the remaining surface of the card front, incorporating the invisible thread to hide.

Step 8

Press down firmly the patterned paper, trimming it if necessary around the edges. The yellow egg should now be able to spin freely when the card stands upright.
