How to make
To begin cut the following lengths:
* 5 x 3.5m lengths
* 5 x 1.5m lengths
Find the centre of each string and thread through the macrame ring.
Cut a further length of string, approximately 50cm long and create a gathering knot just below the ring.
Divide the strings into five groups of two short strings and two long strings.
Select the group that is the most central and using the longer strings as the working strings, work half square knots for approximately 25cm.
For each of the remaining groups, use the longer strings as the working strings, work square knots for 20cm.
Take the embroidery hoop and separate the inner and outer hoop. You will only need the inner hoop for this project.
Attach each square knot section, equal distance apart, onto the hoop using the double half hitch knot. Leave these strings for now.
Cut 40 1.5m lengths of macrame cord.
In the four gaps on the hoop, attach 10 lengths by folding each string in half and attach to the hoop using the Lark’s head knot. You will have four groups of 20 strings.
You will now continue to work with these strings.
Take string 10 and create a diagonal double half hitch know using strings 9 - 1.
Repeat on the other side.
Repeat step eight to create two rows of diagonal double half hitch knots.
Take the centre four strings and create a square knot approximately 5mm from knots above.
Work two alternative square knots below.
Continue to work alternative square knots until there are four knots in a row.
Take the centre four strings and create a berry knot. Work a square knot on either side of the berry knot.
Begin decreasing one square knot per row, work alternative square knots until there is one knot in a row.
Take string one, work double half hitch knots using strings 2 - 10. Repeat on the other side.
Repeat step 16, creating two rows of double half hitch knots. Join together in the centre with a double half hitch knot.
Repeat for the remaining groups.
Now continue to work on the groups of four strings. Take each group in turn and work half square knots for approximately 12cm.
To create the rainbow, first take the thick macrame cord and cut the following lengths:
* 3 x 12cm
* 3 x 14cm
* 3 x 16cm
* 3 x 20cm
* 3 x 22cm
In sequence begin wrapping each set of strings – lilac, aqua, emerald, mustard, fox.
Make sure to leave the cord free at either side.
Begin with the lilac section, fold in half and secure in place with glue.
Now glue each section, making sure to keep the wrapped sections level on either side.
When each section has been glued, cut the macrame cord to create a straight edge.
Using the fox colour, thread a length to the centre of the rainbow. Thread three macrame beads onto the yarn, then secure the rainbow to the half square knot yarn group in the centre of the mobile by creating a gathering knot around the cords.
Sew in the ends to finish neatly.
To create the moon, star and cloud elements use the below Cricut Design Space link to cut a variety of shapes from Kraft board -
Carefully remove the cut elements from the cutting mat and then paint using matt paint.
Leave to dry then use a glue gun to adhere the elements to the mobile.
Cut all remaining strings to desired length
