How to make

Step 1

Wash and iron all of the fat quarters. Using a cutting mat, rotary cutter and a 6 x 6” patchwork ruler cut the fat quarters into squares. Start with the red stag print (Fabric 1) you will need to cut four squares from this, then cut the squares in half at a 45 degree angle and then cut these in half. You should have 16 triangles of fabric 1 in total.

Step 2

Cut two squares from the wreath print (Fabric 2), again for these you will need to cut in half at a 45 degree angle and cut in half again. You should have 8 triangles in total.

Step 3

Cut two squares from the blue holly print (Fabric 5), again for these you will need to cut in half at a 45 degree angle and cut in half again. You should have 8 triangles in total.

Step 4

Cut three squares from the blue merry christmas print (Fabric 3), for these you will just need to cut in half at a 45 degree angle. You should have 6 large triangles in total.

Step 5

Cut three squares from the blue merry christmas print (Fabric 3), for these you will just need to cut in half at a 45 degree angle. You should have 6 large triangles in total.

Step 6

Cut three squares from the red snowflake print (Fabric 4), for these you will just need to cut in half at a 45 degree angle. You should have 6 large triangles in total.

Step 7

You can now begin to construct your table runner! To create block A, sew together using fabrics 1 and 2 and following the diagram below and press the seams. You will need two of these blocks.

Step 8

Sew together the middle pieces using fabrics 3 and 4 using the diagram and press the seams. You should have six sewn together, three with fabric 2 (left) at the top and three with fabric 4 (right) at the top.

Step 9

Create block B by sewing together the remaining fabric 1 triangles and fabric 5. sew together following the diagram below and press the seams. You will need two of these blocks.

Step 10

Sew together one block A with a left piece, and press. Sew together one block B with a right piece and press. Then sew together these two parts. You will need to do this twice. (Follow the diagram below) .

Step 11

Sew the last left piece to the first part and the last right piece to the second. Press the seams.

tr6.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 12

Sew together the two parts and press. Using a fusible interfacing (medium weight) cut out around the table runner front and press carefully.

Step 13

Finally, cut out around the table runner front onto the backing fabric. A plain cotton works well for this. Sew right sides together, leaving a gap so that you can turn it through. Before turning, snip the corners back so they create a sharp edge. Turn through and press. Sew up the gap by hand, give it one final press and your table runner is finished.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very helpful Seam allowance, what size the finished blocks should be? Shouldn't this information be included in the step by step?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor instructions Thought this would be a fun item to make. However, the instructions on cutting the fabric are wrong, the instructions to make up the table runner are sparse and only suitable for someone with a bit of patchwork experience and it totally missed the direction to also buy some backing fabric to finish off. Indication of finished size would also be useful. I will make this, but using my own experience.
